A powerful earthquake struck southern Türkiye and western Syria on February 6 at local time 4:17. The death toll in both countries has now passed 15,000.

Many countries and International organizations have provided emergency assistance. Chinese government has sent out an 82-member search and rescue team with 21 tons of equipment and supplies to the disaster-hit areas. The first squad of the Chinese Blue Sky Rescue team has members from all places of China, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Guangdong, Jiangxi, to name a few. The team gathered in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at short notice before they head for Türkiye.

Xiamen Shuguang Search and Rescue Team together with China Foundation for Rural Development have also formed a group of experts for the upcoming rescue efforts. And the team has already gained approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China. Shuguang Search and Rescue Team has been monitoring the event closely, collecting data around the clock to keep track on the latest development, and to give a periodical assessment according to the standard procedure.

Quick Response from Fujian

In the morning of February 9, Xiamen Blue Sky Rescue team assembled another team of 18 members, 16 members leave from Xiamen and 2 from Guangzhou, heading for Hongkong to change plane for Türkiye.

Hakan, Mechanist Games’ General Manager in Türkiye office, is also one of the first responders. He voluntarily organized the colleagues in Istanbul to procure warm materials like clothes, tents, quilts, as well as other commodities, and sent them to the quake-hit areas.

Fujian Daily did a remote video interview with Hakan. In the interview, Hakan appreciated the helps from Xiamen and other parts of Fujian. He also wished that the people in Türkiye can get through this event with the help of the rescue teams, and the team members can also stay safe during the rescue efforts. Mechanist Games has been paying close concern to the situation in Türkiye. We will continue to learn about the needs from the disaster-stricken areas, and try to provide timely help and assistance.
